Cross-border cooperation in tourism as an opportunity for the economy and the population of the Upper Rhine and the RegioTriRhena
With around 30 million overnight stays and 200,000 beds, the tri-national tourism region is on a par with Tuscany and South Tyrol.
The European Single Market and the bilateral agreements between Switzerland and the EU promote integration in the German-French-Swiss border region. The shared aim of this cooperation is to further improve the Upper Rhine region’s international competitiveness in the tourism sector and to raise its profile as a tourist destination.

Tourism conference in Bad Krozingen
Tourism boosts the economy, society and culture in the Upper Rhine region
To mark its 30th anniversary, RegioTriRhena hosted a tourism conference in Bad Krozingen. The focus was on the potential of cross-border cooperation and the added value it creates. It is precisely through this collaboration that the region’s strengths come to the fore: the hotel and catering sectors, tourist attractions and cultural events on the German, French and Swiss sides complement one another to form a diverse range of offerings that benefits guests from both home and abroad, as well as the people living in the Upper Rhine region.

Our Manifesto
RegioTriRhena represents a network in support of transnational economy in the border triangle Freiburg – Colmar – Mulhouse –Basel. Our objective is to strengthen the competitive environment of the trinational region.
Its goal is to strengthen the competitive economy of the tri-national region in the southern Upper Rhine area. Economic networking is achieved through annual visits to innovative companies from all industrial branches in South Alsace, South Baden and North-west Switzerland. On top of this, the RegioTriRhena hosts a large annual conference that covers topical themes given by experts from France, Germany and Switzerland. Dr. Bernd Dallmann was made president in April 2021.
„Au cœur de l’Europe, le Rhin supérieur est une chance pour les jeunes. Renforçons leur intégration dans cet espace de vie en développant les cursus binationaux, le bilinguisme mais aussi les mobilités!“
„With their goals and trinational structure, the RegioTriRhena is an indispensable partner for Alsace and its trans-border cooperations in the southern Upper Rhine area.“
„The Airport Basel-Mulhouse is a French-Swiss company registered under public law, whose function is to coordinate air links for the trinational region Basel-Mulhouse- Freiburg to secure a sustainable development of the area. “
„The University of Haute-Alsace is a member of the Eucor university network and the TriRhenaTech schools. It supports the development of research and education in the Upper Rhine area on a daily basis.“
„RegioTriRhena drives networking in the tri-national border region and thereby supports the efforts of the University of Freiburg to exploit its innovation values.“
